On May 1st of this year, Dr. Stephen Inglis will conclude his term as Executive Director of Aanischaaukamikw Cree Cultural Institute. An experienced museum specialist at the national and international level, Dr. Inglis joined the Aanischaaukamikw project in early 2010. He was instrumental in the development of the building, the collections, exhibitions, staffing, policy development, and the operations as the museum and cultural centre began delivering services.
With the help of Stephen Inglis as Executive Director in the last 5 years, we have accomplished the start up of the Cree Cultural Institute. Aanischaaukamikw owes a great deal to Stephen for his expertise and diligence in this work. We highly commend his personal performance and achievements in his own right and as an excellent colleague, in our collective endeavors to protect and enhance the rich culture of the Cree Nation. For his tireless commitment, we will be eternally grateful.
Dr. Sarah Pashagumskum, an education specialist who is currently Director of Programs at Aanischaaukamikw, will succeed Stephen Inglis. Originally from the Cree community of Chisasibi, Dr. Pashagumskum has experience in teaching, research, writing and programme development with both her home community and the Cree School Board. Sarah has a Ph.D in Educational Studies from Lakehead University.
Since 2011, Sarah Pashagumskum has managed both the museum functions and the programs at Aanischaaukamikw and has guided the outreach to the Cree communities and to other Canadian and international institutions that are so critical to the future of the Institute. Her management experience and organizational skills have been invaluable to the progress made at Aanischaaukamikw.
We look forward to a long and fruitful collaboration with Sarah as we build up Aanischaaukamikw’s capacity to preserve and study our Cree culture, history and language for the benefit of all in Eeyou Istchee, our neighbours and all Canadians.
