The Eenou-Eeyou Community Foundation is a non-profit corporation with charitable status granted by the Canada Revenue Agency (Charitable Business No. 86904 2549 RR0001). The Foundation is managed by a volunteer board of directors comprised of Cree leaders and business people.
The Foundation, which was originally named the Aanischaaukamikw Foundation, was responsible for conducting the Sharing the Ways fundraising campaign which raised $25.6 million to fund the Aanischaaukamikw construction project and Aanischaaukamikw’s early planning and development costs. The Foundation is also responsible for managing the funds collected in the Campaign. This strong result of raising more than $25 million for Aanischaaukamikw shows the success that the Cree can have in a major fundraising campaign and the positive role that philanthropy can play in supplementing government funding for Cree projects.
The Foundation’s offices are located in Ouje-Bougoumou, Québec. Building upon the success of the Sharing the Ways campaign, the Eenou-Eeyou Community Foundation’s major objectives are to increase philanthropic capacity in support of a wide range of charitable activities and programs in Eeyou Istchee.
