Aanischaaukamikw Cree Cultural Institute wins “silver prize” at AVICOM / ICOM awards

Aanischaaukamikw Cree Cultural Institute (ACCI) is pleased to announce that it has received an award in the Web’art category from the International Council of Museums Audio Visual conference. The “silver prize” was awarded for our Mishkutuunimatuutau (Lets Exchange) Project, a part of our interactive website; www.creeculturalinstitute.ca/oldsite/.

This competition, organized every year by AVICOM, (the ICOM International Committee for Audiovisual and New Technologies of Image and Sound) aims to promote the achievements of museums making use of new image and sound technologies. Prizes are awarded in 9 categories by an international jury of experts. The selection is based on quality, originality and form.

The competition is open to any museum or cultural institution in the world as well as professionals and private companies that have undertaken projects in the fields of culture, museography, art or heritage for heritage institutions.

Over 20 countries participated in this competition. Other award recipients included museums on the scale of the Louvre in Paris and institutions in Germany, Portugal, Italy and Taiwan.

“We owe special thanks to all the Cree elders, advisors and contributors, the ACCI staff, Habitat 7, Nancy Hushion, Hyperactive Productions, Mushkeg Media, Sandra Morton Weizman and her curatorial team, David Denton and his team, and the lending individuals and institutions. The Canadian Interactive Fund of the Federal Department of Heritage supported the project.” (Stephen Inglis & Dianne Reid)

Dianne Reid, President of the Aanischaaukamikw Cree Cultural Institute and Stephen Inglis, Executive Director, accepted the award on behalf of Aanischaaukamikw Cree Cultural Institute.
